Biography
Yu-Peng Chen, as known as Zhiyi Chen, is a film composer, music producer and music director based in Shanghai, China. He is one of the most versatile and respected composers currently working in the industry, best known for composing the soundtrack of Genshin Impact. Zhiyi Chen's career spans over fifteen years.He typically integrates traditional instruments with Western orchestral arrangements. He has scored a wide range of films, television shows and video games. He has won several Chinese Academy Award nominations for his music from films, such as Li BaoGuo and Da Shanghai. In addition, he has recorded with many world-class orchestras such as the Asian Philharmonic Orchestra, the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Budapest Film Symphony Orchestra.
BEFORE FAME At age six, he watched the Japanese animated film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and "felt the power of music" for the first time. He graduated with honors from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Trivia In the early 2010s, he began working in the Hong Kong film industry. He collaborated with composer Chan Kwong-wing to produce scores for films like Wong Jing's The Last Tycoon. They also produced the score for Andrew Lau's The Captain, one of the all-time highest-grossing films in China. He also releases some of his work on Spotify, and by December 2022 his following on the platform had grown to reach over 840,000 monthly listeners.
