Yumiko Ooshima

<i>Yumiko Ooshima</i> is a Japanese mangaka, illustrator and writer. She is associated with the year 24 group. She debuted in 1968, with her work Paula no Namida, which was published in "Weekly Margaret's Spring Break Special Edition".

She is credited with popularizing the kemonomimi (catgirl) character type through her creation of Chibi-neko from Wata no Kuni Hoshi.

She received the 1973 Japan Cartoonists Association Award for excellence for Mimosa Yakata de Tsukamaete, the 1978 Kodansha Manga Award for shoujo for Wata no Kuni Hoshi and the 2008 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Short Story Award for Goo Goo Datte Neko de Aru.

In 1997, she was hospitalized for a malignant tumor and was discharged in 1998.
