Yamagishi is a Japanese mangaka and part of the Year 24 Group. She made her professional debut in 1969 with "Left and Right", a short story published in <i>Ribon Comic</i>, a spin-off magazine of <i>Ribon</i>. As a child, Yamagishi studied ballet, which plays a part in many of her works. In 1983, she won the Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo manga category for <i>Hi Izuru Tokoro no Tenshi</i>. In 2007, she won the 11th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for <i>Maihime Terepsikola</i>.
