Hiroshi Kurogane made his debut as a manga artist in 1968 with "I Can Hear the Bandits' Song." In 1971, he attracted attention when he created the title sequence illustration for the NHK period drama "Tenka Gomen." He is particularly acclaimed for his historical manga themed around the end of the Edo period. His representative works include "Himiko!", "Akabei" and "Shinsengumi." He has received numerous awards. A man of great knowledge, he also appeared as a contestant on the popular Showa-era quiz show "Quiz Derby." He was active in history-related programs on NHK as well as appearing in the life science program "Ultra Eye."
