Nagate Tanikaze

The series main protagonist who was created by his grandfather deep inside Sidonia, thus he did not undergo the special genetic treatment to develop the ability to perform photosynthesis and must eat on a daily basis like a regular human for nutrition. Despite having a hard time adapting to Sidonia's way of life and getting in trouble constantly while being rejected by the other humans due to not being aware of the laws and attributes of the new culture, he eventually becomes the spaceship's ace pilot after saving the day on several missions.
