Haruki Nakayama is a film major graduate student, and the bassist in the band Given. He is the oldest in the group and the leader of the band. Haruki “prefers lighter music (compared to other guys) and pop. Drawn to Japanese rock and light, slow tempo dance.” He is “extremely good natured and kind” and is easily flustered. In the manga it is revealed that Haruki’s “stand” is a kind elderly man. He lives on his own in an apartment and is friends with Ritsuka Uenoyama, Mafuyu Satou, and Koji Yatake.

~!In season one of the anime it is clear he has romantic feelings towards his band-mate Akihiko, and as of now in the manga is the boyfriend of Akihiko.!~
